Woody Harrelson Confirms He Is Playing Garris Shrike In HAN SOLO Film
The whole world is gearing up for the release of Episode VIII (officially titled The Last Jedi) this coming December but Lucasfilm is not stopping in expanding the Star Wars universe into more and exciting stories. Rogue One’s success has open the door for more spin-offs and the next film will be about our favorite half-witted, scruffy looking nerfherder.
As previously reported Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) will take the mantle of a young Han Solo with Donald Glover (Atlanta) portraying a young Lando Calrissian. Also, it has been reported that Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games franchise) will join the film as Solo’s mentor. Now, Harrelson himself has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming film.
In an interview with Variety promoting his upcoming film Wilson with co-star Laura Dern (who has a role in The Last Jedi), Harrelson confirmed he is playing Garris Shrike. For those unfamiliar with Garris Shrike, he appeared in the 1997 novel The Paradise Snare as the man who saved and raised Han Solo alongside a female Wookie. Since the novel is now part of the Legends canon (which means it’s not canon in the new Lucasfilm timeline), we’ll have to wait and see if there are any similarities between the book and Harrelson’s portrayal of the character.
The Han Solo film will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie) and has a release date of May 25, 2018 (although there is speculation that the film will move to December). Stay tuned for more updates about this film.
