JUMANJI Returns to Top of Box Office on Super Bowl Weekend

It took Jumanji only one week to get back to the top of the domestic box office, overtaking last week’s champ Maze Runner for first place, during the traditionally slow Super Bowl weekend at the box office. The Sony movie continued its very impressive run, dipping less than 40% in its 7th week of release, for a total of $11 million and over $352 million in North America. Another $500 million or so overseas (93 markets) means it is rapidly approach the billion dollar mark. Meanwhile, the Maze Runner finale had a pretty steep drop, ending around $10 million,...

Tyler Perry’s BOO 2 Scares Up Domestic Box Office

Easily carving up the competition, the Tyler Perry sequel Boo 2! A Madea Halloween made over $20 million at the North American box office this past weekend, enough for first place overall. THE DARK TOWER Tops Lackluster Summer Weekend

With the top 12 movies making barely above $100 million combined, the first weekend of August was the slowest at the multiplex since April. Indeed, tickets sales are about 10% down from the same time in 2016. It was under those circumstances that the critically panned adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Dark Tower “triumphed” at the box office, with a tally just shy of $20 million, an inauspicious beginning for what is supposed to be the start of a franchise whose even first film cost over $65 million to make. In second place was the Christopher Nolan World War...
