Armie Hammer Comments On Possible GREEN LANTERN Casting For DC

Despite the less than stellar reception for Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. and DC are going full swing with their extended universe. This year, the studio is preparing the release of Wonder Woman and Justice League and in the coming years we’ll have Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, Shazam! and a solo-Batman film. Another film that’s been in development for quite some time is Green Lantern Corps.

After the disastrous performance of 2011’s Green Lantern (which was supposedly going to be the start of the DCEU before it crashed and burned), DC is taking another approach for this new film and it’s not only including Hal Jordan but also Jon Stewart in the story. The film has a tentative 2020 release date but that hasn’t stopped the speculation of which actors are going to portray the famous super-hero.

According to The Wrap, Tom Cruise, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer and even Ryan Reynolds are on the shortlist to play Hal Jordan. However, many of the actors appear to be surprised by these reports as Hammer said that this was the first time he was hearing about this news. During an interview promoting his new film “Call Me Your Name” in Park City, Utah, Hammer said:

“I saw the reporting too, that’s the first I’ve heard of it”

While he may be playing coy, the film is still some years away and the casting process is in very early stages so it’s very possible that he will be approached for the role at a later time. Hammer is no stranger in playing action heroes as he did in the ill-conceived Disney film, The Lone Ranger alongside Johnny Depp.

As of now, David Goyer (Man of Steel) and Justin Rhodes (Contract Killers) are in charge of writing the script with Goyer also producing the film alongside DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. No director or any other casting announcement is known at this time but stay tuned for updates.

Green Lantern Corps is slated for release in summer 2020.
