Concept Art Has Brad Pitt as Cable in DEADPOOL 2!

Ever since the phenomenal success of Deadpool last year and the announcement of the much-awaited sequel, rumors have been swirling as to who would be cast as the new villain to oppose Ryan Reynolds’ irreverent superhero. And while we all know that the female lead Domino has now been given to Zazie Beets, the question is who would play fan-favorite Cable? Now, photos have leaked that show that, contrary to other rumors, Brad Pitt is very much still under consideration to portray that crafty bad guy.

As we discussed last week, Brad Pitt would be an interesting addition given his talents as a character actor but also his reticence to get involved in this type of project. In fact, Pitt seems like a great choice in many ways. His ability to combine serious stoniness with comedic relief (witness the contrast between his characters in Fury and Ocean’s Eleven) would be a fitting contrast for the graphic hilarity that we expect from the Deadpool sequel and that we saw in the original.

With director David Leitch firmly attached to helm the project and casting well underway, it is clear that 20th Century Fox wants to get this one right to protect its surprise hit. Speculation is abounding of late that everyone from Michael Shannon to David Harbour is under consideration, but these photos show conclusively that someone has given serious consideration to the superstar as the main foil.

It is not clear when a final decision will be made, and certainly the studio and Reynolds are taking their time but fans are willing to be patient, at least for now, to make sure the right person is cast. The decision is huge, because it could lead to other projects, not to mention an X-Force movie, which could reach heights first visited by The Avengers.

Stay tuned as we keep our ear to the ground as to who is ahead, and tell us in the comments what you think of Brad Pitt as Cable in the Deadpool sequel.
