Channing Tatum Talks GAMBIT And Confirms Starting Over With Script
HeyUGuys recently interviewed actor Channing Tatum (Magic Mike) on the London red carpet for his latest film, Logan Lucky. During the interview, Tatum was asked about the status of the X-Men spinoff, Gambit, which has had Tatum attach to star as the title character Remy Lebeau also known as Gambit. Tatum confirmed Gambit is still in active development and being re-written following the critical and financial success of Deadpool and Logan.
On the development on the script and the film, Tatum said:
“We lit a fuse on the first one and just blew it completely out of the water. I think we got lucky – we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn’t seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then Deadpool and Logan came through and kicked the doors down. Now we’re really getting to do some of the things we’ve always wanted to do with the script – we’ve just sort of started over.”
20th Century Fox had struggled locking in a director with tfirst signing on to direct but only to drop out shortly after. Director Doug Liman eventually signed on to helm the film but he dropped out as well. Wyatt had previously directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Gambler while Liman is known for The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow.
Currently there is no official release date for Gambit and Channing Tatum is the only confirmed actor for the film.
