SDCC 2017: Channing Tatum Confirms GAMBIT Is Still A Go

Comicbook.com interviewed actor Channing Tatum at San Diego Comic-Con where the actor was on hand promoting his latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Comicbook.com asked Tatum if he was still attached to star in 20th Century Fox’s Gambit.

Tatum gave a positive response about the film saying;

“Yeah, of course. We’re working on it right now.”

The X-Men spinoff has been stalled for a few years due to directors dropping out (Rupert Wyatt, Doug Lyman) and 20th Century Fox completely removing the film from its future release schedule. X-Men producer Hutch Parker recently confirmed that Gambit is in active development, but that director Doug Liman dropped out earlier in the year because he couldn’t find a deep connection with the film.

Earlier this year during an interview with IGN, Liman talked about his departure on the film saying:
“You know, it’s a crowded field of superhero films so the challenge for Gambit or any of those other movies is finding its unique space and its unique take”
Liman added:
“But, yeah, I think Simon Kinberg, who is producing it, is a great producer and he’ll create something great out of it.”
Last month, 20th Century Fox announced new release dates for six untitled Marvel movies which are dated for June 7th, 2019November 22nd, 2019March 13th, 2020June 26th, 2020October 2nd 2020, and March 5th, 2021.
