Denis Villeneuve May Direct CLEOPATRA Remake

On the eve of the much awaited release of his sci-fi sequel, Blade Runner: 2049, director Denis Villeneuve is said to be in talks to direct another Sony picture, the pic tale of the enigmatic queen Cleopatra.

According to Deadline, the director of last year’s award-winning Arrival and of other hit movies like Sicario and Prisoners is in serious consideration to direct a film that would be produced by Scott Rubin and Amy Pascal and that could even feature Angelina Jolie in the titular role. Sony already has a script based on the best-selling novel by Stacy Schiff, so a director is the missing ingredient.

Villeneuve has also been rumored to be in talks to be the next James Bond director, but Deadline speculates that this isn’t in the cards and that a trip to ancient Egypt is much more likely for the Canadian-born director. He is also working on a readaptation of the sci-fi movie Dune.

Of course Hollywood has already given the Queen of the Nile the cinematic treatment once before, with a controversial flop from the 1960s starring Elizabeth Taylor.

We have a feeling that a project led by the talented Villeneuve would not suffer the same fate. We may even see an alien or two.
