Ewan McGregor Waiting By The Poolside To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi
It is sunny afternoon in picturesque Hollywood Hills California. The sky is clear and the sun gives the perfect amount of warmth that has made the Golden State a place of destination for anyone seeking to escape the gloom of Gotham City. In a poolside recliner lounges Ewan McGregor, sipping a freshly made glass of iced tea, when his cellphone rings. It’s the call he has been waiting for, the call to return to that galaxy far, far away to once again become the master who would bring us Anakin Skywalker, to dawn the brown hooded cloak once again as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
This is how I like to believe he would tell the story to his celebrity friends when they asked, “So what were you doing when they called you to revisit your role in a few upcoming Star Wars movies?”, but he will not be regaling them with this tale for some time. We know that another mark in the Star Wars story is coming out this year and fans a re already eager for its release, but what we don’t know is when will the story that grabbed the imagination of a generation return to the screen.
The story that told us of the fallen brotherhood between the Jedi master Kenobi and the now Sith Lord, Darth Vader. We have seen the untold tale of Rogue One hit theatres and receive grand reviews from fans and critics and now with the announcement of Han Solo getting a stand alone film, things looked prim for Obi-Wan Kenobi to make his return to the big screen. To add fire to the excitement, Ewan McGregor has said more than once he would be interested in swinging the light saber of the great master once more. As he shared with Entertainment Weekly;
“It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes….”
Yet, he has not received a call from Lucasfilm to begin negotiations. Some would rather see Obi-Wan back on the big screen before Han Solo does his shifty con-man shenanigans but there is no need to worry as Lucasfilm has a few more movies to produce between now and 2020’s; does saying that feel weird to anyone else? Not to mention there are few unannounced standalone movies in the works, so Ewan may get to tell his story of the poolside call after all.
