Breaking: THE JOKER Origin Film In the Works With Scorsese as Producer

Earlier today Deadline reported that Warner Bros. and DC are working on a The Joker origin story under the DC umbrella, that could be one of many other spinoffs from their known quantities.

The film is set to be co-written and directed by Todd Phillips, who directed The Hangover as well as the more-recent War Dogs. Scott Silver, who wrote 8 Mile and the award-winning The Fighter, will be the other screenwriter.

But the really exciting part of the story, at least for old school film nerds, is the news that legendary director Martin Scorsese is attached to the product as a producer. This means that the tone of the film will be less Suicide Squad and more Taxi Driver, with a probably as of yet unknown young actor tapped to play the enigmatic villain in a noir-esque, crime infested Gotham in the early 1980s to emulate the feel of some of Marty’s signature work.

Those are all the details we know for now, but rest-assured we will keep you posted as more develops.

Any similarity with the slightly unstable writer in the seminal 1944 film 'The Lost Weekend' is pure coincidence
