Source: JOKER Origin Story To Focus on Young, Bullied Joker
A former MMA fighter who moved to Hollywood and is pal with Todd Phillips’ agent, the director of The Hangover who has been linked to the The Joker origin story, has provided more details about the upcoming film. Brendan Schaub recently said in a podcast that the film will focus in part on the character’a childhood, when he had a permanent smile and was bullied mercilessly.
All of this is in keeping with what we learned last week about the origin story being a dark one in the vein of some of the films by Martin Scorsese, who has been attached as a producer to the film.
“My boy Todd Feldman [Phillips’ agent] put this together with Todd Phillips. It’s dark. It’s like a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s like on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super dark and real.”
That sort of makes sense for a character as enigmatic and evil as The Joker, though of course, with a topic as politically charged as bullying, I wonder if the implications will ruffle feathers.
Stay tuned and let us know your thoughts on the origin story.
