Which Comic Will Be The Inspiration For BATGIRL Movie And Rumor On Who’s The Frontrunner!

Joss Whedon has had quite the interesting career. I say this as someone who has never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You know what? I never say Dollhouse either. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until the movie Serenity came out and had everyone talking that I became aware of some of his work. After enjoying Serenity, it was off to catch up on the show Firefly that most people had chosen to ignore. In hindsight, Firefly was enjoyable, but no episode begged to be watched again. Then, Joss went big with Cabin in the Woods, and dare I leave out The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. And, just like that, he gracefully bowed out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But, now Joss is in talks to write, direct, and produce a Batgirl film. This is good news? Does the world really need a Batgirl film? Have we run out of heroes? If this is in the interest of having a heroine onscreen, why overlook Big Barda and Power Girl. Perhaps it’s because they have actual powers. Or, this Ben Affleck situation has Warner Bros. desperate to find anyone who lives in Gotham that has access to his gallery of villains. But, perhaps this can still be a slam dunk.

Entertainment Weekly reported that this movie will use DC Comics “New 52” version of the character as a starting point. The good news is that the Joker seems destined to appear in this film. To any that roll their eyes at more of Jared Leto’s version of the Joker, shame on you. He was wonderful, and I will scream it from the best brunch spots I can find. Will Nightwing make an appearance, or J.K. Simmons super jacked version of Commissioner Gordon? Only time will time will tell.

Batgirl New 52

Let’s focus our eyes on actress Lindsay Morgan (who plays Raven Reyes on The 100) for one moment. She’s been rumored to have been cast as Batgirl. And since the Batgirl news broke yesterday, Morgan has been actively retweeting any articles about it, as well as any about her rumored involvement as the new Barbara Gordon. So either she’s the new Batgirl or she’s just very excited at this point. Let’s just see how this plays out Lindsay, but we’re watching you.

What do you think of Joss Whedon using the DC Comics “New 52” version of the character as a starting point? And how about Lindsay Morgan as Batgirl? Sound off below.
