LOGAN Director Shares Pics of Upcoming Movie

Logan director James Mangold broke the internet yesterday by sharing photos of the hotly anticipated 2017 superhero drama. The three pictures showcase Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and Laura Kinney/X23 (Dafne Keen). Mangold revealed that each picture was not a still of the movie, but rather a snapshot from the set. Mangold also revealed the type of camera used to take the shots. The pictures show the three actors staring pensively at the camera, alluding to the more gritty and dark tone that the film is expected to take on. Movie columnists have also noted the “noirish lighting” of the three pictures as well as the dark and gritty aesthetics and tone that the marketing of the film is trying to convey.

The marketing campaign for Logan has been undisputedly driven by social media. Both Mangold and star Hugh Jackman have shared black and white and colored stills on the upcoming movie on Twitter. Hugh Jackman gave away the synopsis of the film via Twitter, and the film’s Wponx instagram page has divulged of myriad of details surrounding the film. Logan is the first R-rated X-Men movie in the entire franchise. It has been revealed by multiple outlets that Jackman himself took a pay cut in order to finance the movie. The movie has been described as a “violent western” and focuses more on character development than bombastic action scenes.

Logan, which will be released on March 3, 2017, has already elicited strong critical reactions before its release. Both Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson have praised it lavishly, the latter of which going so far as to call it the “best X-Men movie ever made.” The film is also notable for being Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Logan/Wolverine in the X-Men universe. The film will feature Logan/Wolverine taking care of Charles Xavier while both of their powers begin to deteriorate. While only one trailer has been released prior to the movie, a second trailer in expected to drop soon. The strong success of Deadpool last year is the likely reason as to why Logan will be carrying an R rating.
