Matt Reeves Drops Out From THE BATMAN
It’s time to turn on the bat-signal once again because The Batman needs to find a director as another one drops out.
After reporting earlier today that Matt Reeves could possibly take over the Batman universe with Ben Affleck still attached to star, now we come to find that Matt Reeves drops out of the Batman directing offer.
The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Matt Reeves, who is deep into post-production on War For The Planet Of The Apes, has turned down the offer to direct the caped crusader’s next solo film.
A studio source confirms that even though negotiations broke down, a possibility exists that talks could resume again. But I wouldn’t be very optimistic about that if I were Warner Bros.
This is the second director to turn down a story that Affleck co-wrote with DC Films co-head Geoff Johns. The first being Affleck himself.
Not to get all political but at this point it’s almost as if Donald Trump is nominating these directors and they’re all turning him down.
Ridley Scott (The Martian) , Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), Denis Villeneuve (Arrival), Kevin Smith (Mallrats), and David are all names that have been floated around to direct after Affleck stepped down from the dual role.
Could all this director shuffling have something to do with Mel Gibson? The oscar winning director recently spoke with Warner Bros. about the sequel for Suicide Squad but nothing materialized.
Did Mel Gibson possibly talk some Batman with the WB? It’s all pure speculation by me but he would be my first choice to make a really bad-ass Bat-movie.
Perhaps Warner Bros. can approach Zack Snyder about taking over the directing duties and keep the DCEU continuity going. That could be interesting but a fresh look is what Gotham really needs.
And now we wait…
