Mel Brooks Talks SPACEBALLS 2: THE SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY

One of life’s greatest mysteries is why we haven’t gotten a Spaceballs 2 yet. But the good news (or bad) is that we may have an answer pretty soon!

Mel Brooks was as at special screening of Young Frankenstein, where he commented on the status of the long awaited space comedy. The @NJpac twitter page posted the video which you can see and listen to below:

So it seems that MGM might be the studio to bring Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money into theaters. Brooks commented:

“We’re talking…Who knows?”

The original Spaceballs took place in a distant galaxy, planet Spaceball which had depleted its air supply, leaving its citizens reliant on a product called “Perri-Air.” In desperation, Spaceball’s leader President Skroob (Mel Brooks) orders the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) to kidnap Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) of oxygen-rich Druidia and hold her hostage in exchange for air. But help arrives for the Princess in the form of renegade space pilot Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-man, half-dog partner, Barf (John Candy).

I can see Mel Brooks reprising his roles as Skroob and Yogurt, at least one of them for sure. Would Rick Moranis make one last comeback for this? Maybe. I

m sure Bill Pullman would be down. Unfortunately John Candy and Joan Rivers are no longer with us but I’m sure that Brooks has something up his sleeve. Who wouldn’t want to see something like the son of Barf being played by someone like Seth Rogen or Josh Gad. Kevin Hart or Aziz Ansari as a droid. Hmmm…

I really hope Spaceballs 2 happens! Get it done MGM!
