Michael Shannon Emerges As The Frontrunner To Play Cable In DEADPOOL 2
A few weeks ago the folks over at sources at Collider told them that actor Michael Shannon was in the mix to potentially play Cable, a.k.a. Nathan Summers in Deadpool 2, but was no longer in the running due to scheduling issues. Well things have changed since then and now Michael Shannon has emerged as the frontrunner for the much-buzzed about Deadpool 2 role of Cable.
Sources tell THR that Shannon isn’t the only one on 20 Century Fox’s list but is the one leading the pack as the top choice at this stage. Stranger Things actor David Harbour is also on the shortlist. Today we also mentioned that Brad Pitt could also be in the mix.
If Shannon is cast he joins Ryan Reynolds who will be reprising his role as the wise-cracking mercenary Deadpool, and Zazie Beetz as the super-powered merc named Domino.
John Wick director David Leitch is directing the sequel to Fox’s surprise blockbuster that grossed $783 million worldwide.
Cable is the adult son of the X-Man Cyclops (Scott Summers) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone), and the half brother of Rachel Summers, from a possible future timeline, having been transported as an infant to the future, where he grew into a warrior, before returning to the present.
Deadpool 2 is scheduled to shoot from this summer in Vancouver.
All I can say is that back in February we spoke to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld about Cable and Domino casting, and back then he said the casting of Cable and Domino was going to blow people’s minds and I don’t know if its just me but Shannon playing Cable doesn’t blow my mind.
If you had someone like Nathan Fillion or Ted Danson (who’s been spotted at LA’s Gold’s Gym working out like a beast and looks ripped for an upcoming role) then you’re gonna blow people’s mind. But that’s just me. We also heard that the Domino role was bigger than the Cable role.
