Natalie Portman is MIA in THOR: RAGNAROK And Here Is Why
Academy Award winner Natalie Portman co-stared with Chris Hemsworth in 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World as his Norse god’s love interest, an astrophysicist by the name of Jane Foster. However, Portman seems to be missing in the upcoming installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Ragnarok. It looks as though like some sort of rift happened between Thor and Foster that caused to break up.
In Ragnarok, Thor journeys across worlds to find out who or what is manipulating The Avengers.
“He’s off exploring the universe, still trying to police it and control the mayhem. But he’s certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there.”
While Foster is not in the film, Thor will eventually meet Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who might be Thor’s next romantic interest. According to Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige, there is a possibility that their might not be sparks flying between Thor and Valkyrie.
“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”
When The Wall Street Journal asked Natalie Portman about her involvement in upcoming Marvel films, she said that she was done as far as she knew.
Whether or not Thor will romance Valkyrie in the upcoming movie, there is major potential that this film could blow both Thor and Thor: The Dark World out of the water courtesy of its the director, Taika Waititi () and an impressive cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stranger, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum.
Thor: Ragnarok comes out November 3, 2017.
