Nicolas Pesce To Rewrite And Direct THE GRUDGE Reboot… Sigh
Splashnanigans, it appears that Ghost House Pictures is dipping its toes in The Grudge pool. Nicolas Pesce is set to rewrite and direct The Grudge reboot for Ghost House Pictures. Pesce, who made his directorial debut on the critically acclaimed 2016 Sundance pic The Eyes of My Mother… I can’t act like The Grudge was a good film. Who cares?
The Grudge took advantage of the fact that audiences were still anxious to see Michelle Gellar (who?!) and it’s certainly a champion for making $187 million on a $10 million budget. But, this thing needs a rewrite the likes of Dredd. Question is: What horror movie can they steal from (like Dredd did with The Raid) to give us a Grudge flick worth $25? I see my movies in 3D IMAX, don’t you?
The original film was based on Takashi Shimizu’s Japanese horror thriller Ju-On. Who later faced off with the monster (?) from Ringu. Oh, Japan… The new film is based on a script by Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler, and it will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Erin Westerman and Romel Adam will oversee for Ghost House.
