First Pics of PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING’s Jaegers Revealed!

Production of Pacific Rim: Uprising has gone through fits and starts. Last year alone there was a release date change, a director change, and a title change. But fans anticipating the release of the Pacific Rim sequel just got a taste of what’s to come: the newly released image of three new “Jaegers” that will appear in the movie.

In the images, which will appear in the next issue of License! Global, the “Jaegers,” the giant robots created by humans in the future to fight the evil Kaiju, look sleeker and deadlier than their predecessors. So although the plot details of the sequel remain under wraps for now, these new designs show us that Uprising has potential to surprise.

Pacific Rim: Uprising, based on characters created by the talented Guillermo del Toro, will star The Force Awakens star John Boyega, as well as Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, and Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi.  The Universal Pictures film is set for a February 2018 release, and is being directed by Marvel’s Daredevil’s Steven S. DeKnight.

Check out the two images in this article and let us know in the comments what you think about the upcoming Jaegers and the film.

J. Don Birnam

J. Don Birnam, a voting member of the New York Film Critics Online, has been a movie lover since he saw the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film in theaters at a tender age, and has been a devoted student of American film history every since. His favorite films range from Back to the Future to West Side Story, depending on the time of day, and has a mildly unhealthy obsessions with the Academy Awards. Any similarity with the slightly unstable writer in the seminal 1944 film 'The Lost Weekend' is pure coincidence
