Sony Pictures Will Release A VENOM Movie Next Year

It looks like one of the biggest baddies in Spider-Man’s rogue gallery, Venom, will have his own movie next year.

According to a tweet from Exhibition Relations, it said:

Watch out, Spider-man. VENOM is now part of the release calendar web as Sony has slated the Spidey spinoff for October 5, 2018.

In the comics, the alien Symbiote merge with photographer Eddie Brock to become a hulking and vicious creature. Venom made his big screen debut a decade ago in Sam Rami’s Spider-Man 3 as played by Topher Grace.

Since then, Sony has tried several times to launch a solo movie without any success. It was reported last year that a Venom movie was being planned and it would not have any ties to the Sony’s impending Spider-Man franchise starring Tom Holland as everyone’s favorite neighborhood webslinger (who debut in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America: Civil War last summer).

It is going to be interesting to see Sony Pictures relaunch the Spider-Man franchise for the third time with assistance from Marvel Studios now that they can use characters like Iron Man from the MCU. It is kind of hard to believe that this will not be connected to the upcoming Spider-Man film as they could go many ways with the casting choices. Reason being is that Venom moved onto different hosts over the year like The Scorpion and Peter Parker’s old high school rival, Flash Thompson.

Holland will return as Spidey in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hit theaters July 7. Sony Pictures Animation will be releasing a non-MCU animated Spider-Man movie on December, 21, 2018, two months after the Venom release date.
