Sony’s VENOM Movie Will Be Connected To MCU

Sony’s Venom movie starring Tom Hardy will be connected to the MCU!

Remember when fans were arguing when it was announced that Sony was moving forward with their Venom spin-off movie as well as the Silver and Black spin-off? Especially since the assumption was that they would take place outside of the established MCU. Fans can put all those worries to rest though, as Amy Pascal confirms—with Marvel head Kevin Feige at her side— that Venom along with all the other upcoming Sony movies will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She confirms it here in an interview with Comic Fade:

Here’s the exact quote from Amy Pascal:

“Both movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker. I mean, they’ll be adjuncts to it, there may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other.”

Considering that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige  has more explicitly stated that Venom will not be a part of the MCU, the word “adjuncts” might be the key to unraveling this confusing mess. As in, don’t expect to see Tom Hardy’s Venom in any Avengers film, but Spider-Man might show up in Sony’s Venom film. Sony’s movies would exist on the fringes in this case, not ever referencing any big Infinity War-esque events. Apparently, some people didn’t hold on to the fact that it wasn’t outright saying that Venom’s story will take place outside of the shared universe.

If this news is actually the truth, it makes Venom and Silver and Black (STORY DETAILS ARE HERE for Sliver and Black) film far more interesting than they would be as just stand-alone films. That path just seems like an open door to confuse audiences and muddle what seems to be a successful adaptation for their franchise character. Having them at least connected in the same world would also open up the possibilities of Fox cutting a similar deal with the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, giving us the chance for that mega crossover a lot of nerds have been dreaming about.

Well, I’m happy, and every other fanboy should rest at ease, knowing that Sony and Marvel are still doing good by their decision to share the Spidey-verse. And by the way, let’s welcome Tom Hardy to the MCU!

Now let’s see what actresses Sony and Marvel have in mind for Black Cat and Silver Sable…and others…

Venom is set to come out October of next year, and Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theater July 7.
