Sterling K. Brown Expresses Interest In Upcoming Green Lantern Movie

Actor Sterling K. Brown is one of the hottest rising stars in Hollywood at the moment. Brown’s breakthrough as an actor was his performance as Christopher Darden in last year’s highly acclaimed American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson, which earned him an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries and a Golden Globe nomination as well.

His new show, This Is Us, was nominated for three Golden Globes last Sunday, including Best Television Series – Drama. Recently, Brown was cast as the enigmatic N’ Jobu in the upcoming MCU film Black Panther, which is expected to arrive in theaters in February 2018. Before the release of Black Panther, Brown will be appearing in Marshall, a biopic starring Black Panther costar Chadwick Boseman as African American Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Despite Brown’s incredibly busy career, he seems to have found one more role that he wants to play. Recently, news broke that the new writers for the 2020 Green Lantern Corps film, David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes, are planning on introducing Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart to the DCEU. While Hal Jordan is caucasian in the comics, and was played by Ryan Reynolds in the disappointing 2011 Green Lantern film, John Stewart is often regarded as one of DC’s most prominent African American heroes.

Upon the news that John Stewart will be introduced to the DCEU, Brown tweeted his interest in the role despite his upcoming involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Brown is cast as John Stewart, he’ll be one of the few actors that has been appeared in both the MCU and the DECU.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to be released during Summer 2020 and will be an addition to the polarizing DC Extended Universe. While no director has been yet, writer David S. Goyer has been seen as the “Chief Architect” of the DCEU, having co written both Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Warner Bros attempted to make an onscreen adaptation of Green Lantern before in the much maligned 2011 film of the same name starring Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds later mocked his role in the Green Lantern film in the 2016 surprise smash hit Deadpool. Green Lantern Corps is rumored to be more space based, in comparison to the mostly earthbound 2011 Green Lantern.
