SUICIDE SQUAD 2 Director Quits for Another Project

Deadline is reporting that Jaume Collet-Serra, an up and coming director who recently was behind the camera for The Shallows and who had been tapped to direct the Suicide Squad sequel for Warner, has separated himself from that project.

Instead, Collet-Serra is looking to start on a brand new franchise, Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which will star Dwayne The Rock Johnson in what the studio hopes will be another successful franchise based on an amusement park ride aka Pirates of the Caribbean with Johnny Depp.

Warner will likely move to fill the slot quickly, and there will be no dearth of contenders for a coveted spot in a big name franchise now that famous directors have been producing popcorn fare with so much success, at least in some cases. Given that all of the main original cast-Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Will Smith-are all set to return, most directors should welcome the chance to attach their name to the project.
