WB Is Betting Big On Ezra Miller, With Pivotal Roles In Both DC And Harry Potter Franchises

Yesterday, somewhat lost in the feeding frenzy about the extensive (and expensive!) Justice League reshoots, was the fact that Warner Bros is putting actor Ezra Miller in a very unique position within its cinematic output for the next several years. See, the report from Variety that got everyone talking yesterday made mention of the fact that Miller’s role in their Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them series was “growing.” Everyone focused on the fact that since both the Harry Potter/Wizarding World and DC Extended Universe franchises were Warner Bros properties that the studio was having an easy time balancing out his schedule. But beneath the surface here is the fact that the studio is betting big on Miller.

At San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed that from the ashes of the troubled solo The Flash movie- which lost two directors, a script, and a release date- a Flashpoint film was set to rise. Based on one of the biggest and most influential comic book storylines in DC Comics history, The Flash’s movie is now going to be a pivotal entry in the DC Extended Universe with the power to realign and reimagine the entire franchise as we know it. And Miller is going to be the face of that event.

Meanwhile, he was introduced as Credence Barebone in last year’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. When he initially signed on for that film, it was going to be the start of a trilogy of films that were spun-off from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise. Somewhere along the way during that film’s production, the whole thing evolved into a five film series that was going to act more as a prequel to the Harry Potter movies than as a spinoff about Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander. Ezra Miller’s character had a fascinating arc in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and this news that his role in the series is growing implies that there’s plenty more in store for Barebone.

It looks like Warner Bros is going to be keeping Miller quite busy these next few years, and hoping that audiences like what Miller brings to his portrayals of Barebone and Barry Allen.

Prior to this, Ezra Miller was primarily known for his work in smaller films like City IslandThe Perks of Being A Wallflower, and We Need To Talk About Kevin. He always received rave reviews (and I can personally attest to being a fan), and he seemed destined for big screen stardom. It looks like WB is the studio that’s ready to make him the household name that his talent always had him on a trajectory for.

Miller’s set to be quite the scene-stealer when Justice League comes out on November 17, as can be seen by a couple of standout moments in the new trailer that was just released at San Diego Comic Con (which you can seeing CLICKING HERE). Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 is slated to come out almost exactly a year later on November 16, 2018.
