Will Ben Affleck Hang Up The Cape And Cowl?
Why Ben, why? It seems that all of my articles should be starting with this question. I’m going to prelude my editorial by saying that I’m a huge Batfleck fan. I was as unsure as most when he was first cast as the Dark Knight, but he is by far the best part of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
So, why am I upset? Well, if the rumours are to be believed (and it purely is speculation at this point, so don’t panic) then Ben Affleck is done with Batman. We already know that he will no longer direct the solo outing of the Caped Crusader, that honour possibly going to Matt Reeves. But sources are now saying that he could even step down from the role itself.
It has been reported on the most recent episode of Collider Movie Talk by host John Campea. He himself cautions that this information could be inaccurate, but three separate sources have indicated to him the the Live By Night writer/actor/director wants to stop playing Bruce Wayne altogether.
Discussion between Ben and the Warner Bros. hierarchy are now apparently taking place, with Affleck trying to get out of appearing in the next DC standalone movie. However, if an agreement can’t be reached, that will be his last time playing the iconic DC hero.
With the way that people have harassed Ben these past few years about Batman, instead of focusing on his other ventures, it’s easy to understand the headache that he’s getting. But I hope this isn’t true and that it is just Scarecrow’s fear toxin at work, trying to scare us all.
